(941) Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump Optimization Before Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation

PurposeWe sought to review our single-center experience with intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) optimization prior left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation evaluate differences in hemodynamic changes, clinical outcomes, and survival among those supported preoperative IABP versus who were not.MethodsWe retrospectively evaluated all adult patients (≥18 years old) receiving an LVAD at a single institution between April 2011 June 2019, comparing outcomes requiring did not. Hemodynamic changes analyzed using paired t-tests. Postoperative complications compared univariate analysis. Kaplan-Meier analysis log-rank tests used for survival.ResultsOne-hundred eighty-eight included the study. Preoperative was 51 (27.1%) mean duration of 7.40±5.68 days.
